A day ride from Chiang Mai to the highest spot in Thailand.
We left before light and climbed through the morning cloud, stopping at a viewpoint where the valley was still under a sea of white. Further up, the summit: the shrine in the trees, the sign, and the small crowd of people who had the same idea.
The royal pagodas were the last stop, half-hidden in fog and flower beds. Then the long descent back to Chiang Mai, with the mountain disappearing behind us.
